She was witty ad vivid .She spent a lot of time separated from her husband while he was serving the country. She encouraged and supported her husband .
When she became the wife of the vice president ,she was a good friend to Martha Washington;she helped with the social events often held. She had a vast knowledge of society and courts from her trips abroad .
When she became the first lady , she continued to throw vast and formal parties and balls. She was also an advocate of womens' rights. In a letter to John Adams, she wrote,"I cannot say I think you very generous to the ladies, for whilst you are proclaiming peace and good will to all men,Emancipating Nations, you insist upon retaining an absolute power over Wives. But you must remember that Arbitrary power is like most things which are very hard, very liable to be broken-and not withstanding all your wise Laws and Maxims we have it in our power not only to free ourselves but to subdue our Masters, and without violence throw both your natural and legal authority at our feet."Abigail Adams was a wise and thoughtful first lady, she was one of the most important women after the Revolution and in the beginning of our country.
