Mary Todd Lincoln was born on December 13, 1818 in Lexington, Kentucky. Her mother had passed away in 1825 and her father remarried. In 1839 Mary moved to Springfield, Illinois to live with her older sister Elizabeth Edwards.
| There she met Abraham Lincoln whom then she thought was a poor nobody. Three years after they met they got engaged. He had given her a ring engraved with the words love is eternal.Little did she know that embark on the most horrific tragedy. | |
On April 14, 1865 her husband Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. It was a sad an very mournful death. She would never get over this tragedy. In 1867 she sold her clothes to try and make some money but it was unsuccessful. In September of of 1875 she went back to Springfield. She died on July 16, 1882 with the wedding ring Love is Eternal.
