CONFEDERATE GENERAL LEE

Robert Edward Lee was born on January 19, 1807 in Stratford, Virginia to a revolutionary war hero, Henry Lee and his wife Ann Hill Carter Lee.
Robert went to the United States Military Academy and he graduated second in his class. When he was a cadet he recieved no demerits. Lee was later given a commission as a military engineer. During this time he married George Washington's granddaughter Mary Custis.
When the war between the United States and Mexico began the General of the Army chose Lee to map out the terrain ahead and once had him lead the troops into battle.
Abraham Lincoln offered Lee the chance to become commander in chief of the U.S. Army, but Lee declined the offer and resigned from the U.S. Army to become commander of the Virginian Army. For a year he was the military adviser to the President of the Confederate States of America, Jefferson Davis, but was then made commander in chief of all of the Confederate Armies. Two years later, Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant in the Appomattox Court House. The military genius Robert E. Lee died on October 12, 1870.
Many Americans consider Lee a true hero.
