Gardening Club Web Page!!!
Advisor: Mr. Cheser
Meeting Days: At lunch: Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri. After school: Tue, Wed, and Thur after school. Once a week during the summer.
When: Lunch and after school from 2:30-3:30.
Where: Room 24, school grounds outside Rooms 24, 23,22, and in the back areas of the baseball field.
What we do: In the Gardening club we beautify out campus and learn to grow vegetables, fruit, and flowers. In addition, we have many different types of projects ranging from building a hot house, constructing brick patios, and installing garden boxes. Students also harvest the fruits of their labor; grapes, watermelon, strawberries, blackberries, and citrus. They gather vegetables such as: squash, corn, lettuce, carrots, peas, beans, onions, and brussel sprouts.
Over the past three years we have planted many native milkweed plants to attract Monarch butterflies. The first year we counted only three monarchs. This year we counted over eighty.
The garden club is committed to organically growing, maintaining, and raising it's crops. The next projects include changing the irrigation system from an open watering system to a drip system
The garden club is open to any adult or student on campus. Students are assigned garden plots they attend to these assigned areas. Likewise, all students work in common areas to help maintain, wee, watered, and plant.
How it works: Each group is given a plot of land. The land must be prepared and a graph is created on paper of the lot. Each group creator blue prints their ideas or concept and demonstration where each item is planted. The area is also diagrammed for its irrigation and run off.
